Accessibility Statement
Last updated: 2026-06-02
Our commitment
BrainMatter is committed to making brainmatter.com usable by the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We design and build against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, targeting Level AA conformance.
Conformance status
The Site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the content do not yet fully conform; we are actively addressing them.
Accessibility features
- Semantic HTML structure with one H1 per page and a logical heading hierarchy.
- Visible focus states for all interactive elements and full keyboard navigation.
- Color contrast targeting WCAG 2.2 AA across the dark theme.
- Alternative text on informative images; decorative imagery marked aria-hidden.
- Responsive layout from 320px to 4K, supporting zoom up to 400% without loss of content.
- Reduced-motion preferences respected for non-essential animation.
Known limitations
- Some embedded third-party content (advertisements, external research widgets) may not fully meet our standards. We work with providers to improve this.
- Older archived articles may not yet include alt text on every figure; we are backfilling.
Assessment approach
We combine automated tooling (Lighthouse, axe-core) with manual keyboard and screen-reader testing (VoiceOver, NVDA) on key templates: homepage, hub pages, articles, glossary, and forms.
Report a barrier
If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please email editorial@brainmatter.com with the page URL, the issue, and your assistive technology if applicable. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
